Big Rapids Roofing Donates a Brand-New Roof to a Local Veteran in Need

Big Rapids Roofing Donates Brand-New Roof Local Northern Michigan Veteran

At Big Rapids Roofing, serving our community is at the core of who we are. When we learned about Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Home Build Program and the opportunity to support a local veteran, we didn’t hesitate. With help from GAF—one of the leading roofing manufacturers in the country—we proudly donated and installed a brand-new roof at no cost, ensuring a safe, secure home for someone who has sacrificed so much for our country.

This project represents what community is all about: partnership, compassion, and stepping up for those who’ve stepped up for all of us.

Partnering to Build Homes, Stability, and Hope

Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Home Build Program focuses on providing safe, affordable housing solutions for veterans and their families. When Habitat began building a new home for a local veteran, we knew we wanted to help bring that vision to life.

Our team arrived ready to work—and ready to give back. We installed a beautiful, durable new roof to help ensure the home is protected for decades to come. As a trusted Northern Michigan roofers, we know a roof is more than shingles; it’s security, comfort, and the foundation for countless memories to unfold.

Why We Accepted This Mission Immediately

  • Veterans deserve safe and stable homes
  • Habitat for Humanity is a trusted, impactful community partner
  • This initiative directly supports local families
  • Giving back is one of our company’s guiding values

Being part of this home build gave our team the chance to use our skills for something bigger than construction—it allowed us to contribute to a fresh start for a veteran who has dedicated his life to serving others.

Creating Impact Through Partnership

We weren’t alone in this project—and we’re grateful for that. The success of this roof donation was made possible through the partnership of multiple organizations working toward a shared mission.

GAF Shingles: A Generous Material Donation

GAF stepped in with the material donation that made this effort possible. Their contribution of high-quality shingles ensured that the new roof would not only look beautiful but also stand up to Michigan weather for years to come.

Their generosity meant the entire project could be completed at zero cost to Habitat for Humanity, the veteran, or his family. This collaboration shows what can happen when companies unite to support meaningful causes.

Habitat for Humanity: A Trusted Partner in Housing

Habitat for Humanity continues to lead life-changing work across Mecosta County. Their Veterans Home Build Program empowers veterans by providing opportunities for safe, affordable homeownership. Partnering with their team is always an honor, and this project was no exception.

Together, we created more than a roof—we created security, comfort, and peace of mind for a deserving veteran.

Why This Project Matters

For many veterans, transitioning into stable housing can be challenging. Physical limitations, limited income, fixed pensions, and unexpected life circumstances can make safe housing difficult to achieve without support.
The Veterans Home Build Program exists to bridge that gap—and projects like this one change lives in powerful ways.

This Roof Donation Helps Provide:

  • Long-term safety and protection
  • Financial relief from costly home repairs
  • A strong, weatherproof structure for Michigan’s climate
  • A stable foundation for a new chapter in life
  • Comfort and dignity for someone who served our country

A roof is one of the most important parts of any home. Knowing that this veteran’s home is now secure, protected, and ready for move-in means everything to our team.

Building Community, One Home at a Time

At Big Rapids Roofing, we are committed to supporting the people and organizations that make Mecosta County strong. From veterans to families, nonprofits to neighborhood programs—our team takes pride in stepping up wherever we can.

This project is a powerful example of how local partnerships can lead to big impact. When we contribute our skills and resources, and when companies like GAF join us, we’re able to lift up the very people who make our community thrive.

Giving Back Is Part of Our Identity

Every year, we participate in multiple community-based initiatives:

  • Habitat for Humanity campaigns
  • Veteran-focused programs
  • Food pantry donations
  • Local fundraisers
  • Community events

This roof donation is another meaningful chapter in our ongoing commitment to serve.

Thank You to Our Partners

We are incredibly grateful to the partners who made this roof donation possible.

To Habitat for Humanity:

Thank you for the meaningful work you do and for trusting us to contribute. Your commitment to affordable housing continues to transform lives across our community.

To GAF:

Your generosity made this roof donation possible. We appreciate the materials, support, and dedication to helping local veterans receive the high-quality homes they deserve.

To the Veteran Who Received This Home:

Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and resilience. We are honored to play a small part in helping you begin this new chapter.

A Home That Honors Service

This new roof is more than a construction project—it’s a sign of gratitude. It represents a community saying “thank you” to someone who has dedicated their life to protecting and serving others.

By donating our expertise and working alongside Habitat for Humanity and GAF, we helped create a home that stands strong, safe, and ready to support the future this veteran deserves.

At Big Rapids Roofing, we don’t just build roofs; we build community, hope, and new beginnings.

BRR is A++ at all levels from Nicholas, Project Manager / Sales Representative, David and Lance Skylight Installers, Faith in the office, Gus an active owner, and to the subcontractor roofing installers. It was a very smooth process due … More to their diligence, pride of work, and professionalism. BRR is the company to turn to especially when the need arises to replace skylights. The company is an authorized dealer and installer of highly rated Velux Skylights. Google: Velux Skylights, put in your zip code, and the sole party that shows up is BRR. My project was somewhat unusual since I wanted to replace my discontinued 20-year-old Andersen skylights at the same time reroofing the shingles and related. I learned from the Internet search that various experts recommend to also change "old" (20 years clearly qualifies) skylights when reroofing. A delay only means an eventual old skylight failure, leaks, additional damage, fighting the elements, shingles torn off to replace and the inevitable higher cost!! Since Andersen no longer manufactures skylights, I needed to pursue "Plan B" with BRR / Velux. Essentially, BRR "fit a square peg in a round hole" with a perfect, beautiful, and high-quality replacement. The new ones are more esthetically pleasing and energy efficient than the former ones. I should have started with BRR. Instead, I received the runaround from other roofing companies that claim to replace skylights. The key to skylight replacement is 1). hire trained Velux installers and 2). buy a quality Velux product. Now, I am all set for another extended period time since I know the job was done right the first time.

We completed our new roofing project Oct ‘25. It was a little bit of a slow start in terms of scheduling but once scheduled the process was quick and easy. We are happy with the quality of the work and the cleanup was excellent. There are … More good financing options available.

The staff at Big rapids roofing was very professional and friendly. They were able to explain to me why my roof was leaking and what needs to be done to fix it. They also helped direct us to a place to get a loan with a decent interest … More rate.

I found Big Rapids roofing because I specifically wanted a roofer who would install Timberline shingles. I found them through the GAF timberline website as certified installers. Building delays for my chimney completion meant they could … More not start until December. As soon as the chimney was finished I called them and they fit me in quickly. They had to blow snow off the roof in order to work. They did a complete tear off and I had the water barrier applied to the entire roof surface, rather than just the valleys as other roofers would do. And the price was more reasonable. They did excellent clean up, and because of the weather their trucks sank into my yard leaving some ruts. They sent a guy out with bags of dirt and grass seed to rectify this, although I did not insist on that. I'm very pleased.

From my initial call with them to our quote visit this company was very friendly and professional, in the office, in the field or on the roof. We spent a day with various roofing companies and none of the others could match them in any … More area. It was an easy choice to go with Big Rapids Roofing! From the day we got our quote to job completion it was all done in less than two weeks! They do not mess around. The crew doing our roof did an exemplary job, exhibiting great work ethic and care. I can’t recommend them enough. You will not be disappointed going with Big Rapids Roofing. I’m calling them back when we need our windows done! Thank you BRR, you have a walking, talking billboard in me!
