Raffle for a Cause: Raising Funds for Habitat for Humanity
One of our favorite initiatives this year was the exciting raffle for ¼ cow of beef, a fun and engaging way to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. Fans, students, and community members came together in a big way—helping us raise $2,186 to support safe, affordable housing for families in need right here in the Big Rapids area.
Every ticket sold made a difference, and every dollar went directly to Habitat for Humanity’s mission. It was a powerful reminder that when Bulldogs unite, the ripple effect can change lives.
Student-Athletes Giving Back
Ferris State student-athletes brought incredible heart and dedication to the raffle event. They volunteered their time to help sell raffle tickets, engage with fans, and champion the cause. Their involvement showed a different side of Bulldog pride—one focused on leadership, service, and compassion.
Championing the Make-A-Wish Incentive Program
To honor the hard work of these athletes, Big Rapids Roofing made a generous donation to the Ferris State Athletic Department’s Make-A-Wish Incentive Program. This program helps make dreams come true for children facing critical illnesses, offering hope and joy when it’s needed most.
We are proud to say that Big Rapids Roofing is the highest donor to date for this initiative. Supporting Make-A-Wish means supporting families, children, and cherished moments of happiness—something we believe in wholeheartedly.

We joined the Ferris State Fan Zone this season to bring even more excitement to the pre-kickoff celebration. Fans stopped by to enjoy:

Our family had an extremely positive experience with Big Rapids Roofing (BRR). We live in Mt Pleasant MI and had avoided replacing our roof for a few years mainly because we thought it was out of reach financially. We eventually asked for … More a quote from a well-known and reliable contractor and ended up signing. A day later, feeling uncomfortable with that decision and wanting to at least explore the possibility of solar shingles, we called Big Rapids Roofing. Gus immediately responded, drove over the next day, and provided 3 quick quotes based on shingle type – the best quality of which was HALF of what we’d agreed to with the other contractor. We decided to cancel that 1st order and felt relieved.Gus communicated exceptionally well and was able to subcontract with Roger’s team out of Grand Rapids. In less than a month, we had a new roof! It’s a relatively steep, large, and complex roof with 19 facets, yet Roger’s Guatemalan team finished in just 2 days! Everyone knew what they were doing; no one just stood around for even a moment.In one minor accident, a stray shingle tore through an awning. Our family was reluctant to report it, but after receiving 2 repair quotes over $1000, we let Gus know. He agreed to fully cover the damaged awning cost without question.We wholeheartedly recommend Big Rapids Roofing to any and all. Despite the price being half of others’, $20k is still a lot and something one must do right the first time. All BRR staff with whom we’ve interacted – Gus, Makayla, Chris, Faith, Zach & Garhett have been amazing and caring.BRR has proven they stand behind their work & we understand GAF stands in support of them!

BRR is A++ at all levels from Nicholas, Project Manager / Sales Representative, David and Lance Skylight Installers, Faith in the office, Gus an active owner, and to the subcontractor roofing installers. It was a very smooth process due … More to their diligence, pride of work, and professionalism. BRR is the company to turn to especially when the need arises to replace skylights. The company is an authorized dealer and installer of highly rated Velux Skylights. Google: Velux Skylights, put in your zip code, and the sole party that shows up is BRR. My project was somewhat unusual since I wanted to replace my discontinued 20-year-old Andersen skylights at the same time reroofing the shingles and related. I learned from the Internet search that various experts recommend to also change "old" (20 years clearly qualifies) skylights when reroofing. A delay only means an eventual old skylight failure, leaks, additional damage, fighting the elements, shingles torn off to replace and the inevitable higher cost!! Since Andersen no longer manufactures skylights, I needed to pursue "Plan B" with BRR / Velux. Essentially, BRR "fit a square peg in a round hole" with a perfect, beautiful, and high-quality replacement. The new ones are more esthetically pleasing and energy efficient than the former ones. I should have started with BRR. Instead, I received the runaround from other roofing companies that claim to replace skylights. The key to skylight replacement is 1). hire trained Velux installers and 2). buy a quality Velux product. Now, I am all set for another extended period time since I know the job was done right the first time.
